ADVANTAGES AND MINUSES OF AUTOMATIC BOXES
BENEFITS OF THE BOX-AUTOMATIC
A car with automatic transmission gives you the opportunity to concentrate on the road, without being distracted by the gear shift. This especially applies to novice motorists who find it difficult to handle the “mechanics”. Now it is possible in a driving school to be trained in a car equipped with an “automatic”. Just keep in mind that driving a car with a manual transmission will be prohibited, as will be marked in the driver’s license. In addition, the “newbies” are often difficult to start off, “stall” with a sharp release of the clutch. In cars equipped with an automatic transmission, this process is electronically controlled, which gives a significant plus. No clutch pedal – no problems. Cars with a classic automatic transmission has a smooth movement, which is achieved by a uniform change in the amount of engine torque depending on the load. No need to think about what kind of gear to stick in, electronics will do everything for you. Modern “automata” can help the driver out when driving through difficult areas with a predominance of snow and sand – if the box has this mode. In Europe, 80% of cars sold are equipped with automatic transmission. In Russia over the past year, 48.3% of cars with automatic gearboxes were sold. In the budget segment, the share of cars with “automatic” is up to 10%, and in the premium segment and the middle class – about 80 percent. BOX-AUTO MINUSES
The main disadvantages of the automatic box are the high requirements for operating conditions and high cost of maintenance. The automatic box has a fuel consumption of 1-2 liters higher than the mechanics. If mechanical boxes have no problems in operation, besides replacing the clutch with a mileage of 100-150,000 km, the automata are more complex and require constant care. With improper operation, with sudden starts and slippings, you can easily “kill” the automatic transmission. Plus, maintenance is more expensive than mechanics. By car with automatic transmission it is quite difficult to tow, and it is extremely undesirable to do this. It is impossible in the car with the “automatic” when the battery is discharged to start “from the pusher.” If you are stuck in snow or mud, then it’s impossible to shake the car, as in the “mechanics” – you have to pull the car out by yourself. Automatic transmission is preferable for drivers who are not short of money and are not ready to sacrifice even a bit of comfort. The result: a car equipped with an “automatic” is reliable and has a long resource with proper management and care. It is better at city traffic with constant traffic jams, but for this you will have to pay a higher cost and increased fuel consumption. If comfort is more important – choose the automatic box.
